With the Board of Trustees, Staff Parents and Caregivers working cooperatively together our aim would be:

To provide an environment that enhances student learning

  • Promote caring, co-operation, respect and pride in self and to others
  • Promote a caring environment in which self esteem is promoted and fostered
  • Foster pride in the school, community and New Zealand
  • Provide a safe and caring environment through a clearly identified behaviour policy
  • Appoint the most suitable and qualified staff available
  • Recognise and promote respect of the bi-cultural and multi-cultural nature of Ngakonui Valley School

  • Have a physical environment both inside and outside the classrooms that promotes the values of quality and caring

To provide Quality Learning Programmes

  • Through focussed teaching and teamwork endeavour to meet the needs of individuals
  • Ensure all children reach the highest level of achievement in the essential learning areas in accordance with their abilities
  • Plan and develop programmes that are challenging, interesting and innovative
  • Develop quality standards of work relevant to individual abilities
  • Develop specific programmes to assist children with special needs
  • Promote the use of Information Technology
  • Promote enjoyment of learning
  • Continue to up-skill staff and encourage and promote self development
  • Clearly identify goals for the school 

To promote student responsibility for their own learning and behaviour

  • Promote student responsibility for the choices they make
  • Set goals in consultation with the student
  • Student self-assessment will be an integral part of programmes
  • Promote activities that encourage effective use of leisure time
  • Encourage work habits that promote self organisation and commitment to learning
  • Actively encourage self responsibility for actions
  • Promote the safe and caring behaviour policy

To foster a partnership with parents and caregivers

  • Inform parents/caregivers about school matters
  • Recognise and develop parental involvement in all areas of school life
  • Provide opportunities to discuss programmes and information regarding a student
  • Promote the activities of the Ngakonui Valley School Parent Teacher Association
